Having a dress, work suit, skirt or even your favorite jeans hemmed just right will not only accentuate your body and elevate your overall look, but it’ll boost your confidence knowing that you’re wearing something that’s been tailored to make you look amazing.
Although getting all your clothes tailored is the best way to dressing sharp, many don’t want to take the time out of their busy schedule to go get their items perfectly tailored to their body. Sure, it’ll take some time to get your wardrobe how you want it to fit, but it’ll be worth it in the end. The good news is that you don’t have to sacrifice time or convenience thanks to a traveling tailor.
There are two main reasons why clients would want to seek out a professional traveling tailor: convenience and time. You can be at home, work or even at a friend’s home – it doesn’t matter! You can have book an appointment with a traveling tailor to meet you wherever is most convenient for you, saving you from having to find the time to drive to a local tailor to get your clothes hemmed and tailored.
A traveling tailor also saves you time since you can book their services whenever you’d like. It doesn’t matter if it’s 8am in the morning or 8pm at night – a traveling tailor will work around your schedule. You won’t have to sacrifice your precious weekend time to visit a tailor thanks to the convenient a traveling tailor offers you.
As a woman, sizing can be a very challenging and sensitive subject. A size up or down than expected in a certain item can really damage your confidence and assurance. Although you are more than a certain size, as a woman, it’s hard to look beyond that. Many don’t take to going up (or down) in sizes very lightly.
But the truth is size really doesn’t matter because in the end all that really does matter is if the clothing in question looks good on you. This entails the way a piece of clothing fits and its length, plus if it’s accentuating your personal assets in the best way possible. Honestly, tailors everywhere have been screaming from the roof tops how sizing shouldn’t matter when buying clothes. You’re going to be a different size in every brand no matter what.
You could be a size 2 in one pair of jeans then a size 6 in another. One blouse might be a medium, while a large fits better in another brand. Retailers have their own sizing and quite frankly, many have reduced their sizing to make you think that you are smaller than you actually are. The industry term for this is called “vanity sizing.” You can even check at home by taking your favorite jeans and measuring the waist and then doubling it to get the true size of your waist. But don’t get too discouraged if the true size isn’t to your liking.
The size shouldn’t matter because the fit is what you need to really worry about. A tailor will ensure that whatever piece you bring in to them fits you like a glove. They’ll make your pants, shirt or blazer look as if it was made just for you despite being bought from a national retail chain. So the next time you’re freaking out because you’re now a size higher than you should be, don’t sweat it and simply have a tailor make you look good with a bespoke fitting!
Zippers are common accessories used on clothing. Your jeans, pants and even shirts and skirts might have them, which means a stuck zipper can really put a wrench in your outfit plans. Not only is it super frustrating, but a stuck zipper can also be quite scary as you pull and tug at it and hope it doesn’t bust or break. But a stuck zipper doesn’t have to worry your day or outfit as long as you know how to properly fix it!
A zipper can get stuck two ways: in the open position or the closed position. An easy way to fix either problem is to use a simple item from your school days: a pencil! The tip of a pencil isn’t actually made from lead, but from graphite and graphite is a lubricant. You just need to get a nice and sharpened pencil and then rub the tip along the teeth of the zipper, it should then produce enough lubrication to free the zipper!
It’s a fairly easy stuck zipper fix that will forever change the way you get ready. You won’t have to worry about tugging too hard and breaking the entire zipper now that you know the secret is to simply use a pencil’s graphite tip. If you don’t have a pencil handy, you can also rub a bar of soap along the teeth to lubricate. But you may need to apply it on both the outside and the inside of the zipper. Just be careful not to get the soap on your clothes, which might leave an undesirable stain. A dab of dish soap also works and is safe for the majority of fabrics. But if the piece of clothing is expensive, it might be worth it to invest in a zipper lubricant. These produce will also prevent stuck zippers from even happening!
Stains are the most annoying things ever! Not only do they ruin your day, but they can also ruin your clothes if not treated properly. Plus, they put a dent in your wallet with the high dry cleaning bills later on! Taking care of stains the right way will not only save your clothes, but also save you money in the long run. Truth be told, you really don’t want to clean your more expensive, tailored pieces too much. Many run straight to their local dry cleaners the moment they get a stain on their favorite pant, suit or blazer when that’s not entirely necessary.
To effectively clean stains from your favorite dry-cleaning pieces (dress pants, blazers, skirts and other professional clothing items) get another piece of the outfit and rub it on the stain, so that it’s cloth rubbing against cloth. Give it a rigorous rub for a minute or two (don’t worry, it won’t hurt the garment), rubbing up and down. This will work the majority of the time. But if it doesn’t keep a pack of baby wipes with you and use that. They’re gentle and won’t hurt the garment and will get rid of the stain so that you don’t have to head to the dry cleaners right away.
If you have a shirt that needs to be treated immediately, take a damp cloth and add just a bit of detergent then gently dab the area that need to be cared for. Just make sure that you are not soaking the entire garment. The key to fighting stains on any garment is to act fast! Catching the stain before it sets means you won’t need a professional’s help to remove it.

The only thing that makes the cold weather bearable is bringing out my favourite winter pieces. For one, I love a good wool coat, but lately I’ve been shifting my focus to pieces that are a little more on the fun side. Enter the faux fur coat from Steph Mouchie.
It really is a game changer. I couldn’t imagine an outfit that couldn’t benefit from it. Not only is it warm, it can work with every combination possible. Dress it up with heels or pair it with everyday essentials ie. jeans, a tee and ankle boots, it just works. To be honest, I’ve always been a bit partial to having texture in a coat, especially since most of my clothes are classic, transitional pieces. With this particular one I love the fact that it adds a certain amount of chicness to any outfit without being too overbearing. It subtly stands out, adding a bit of luxe to your look which is never a bad thing in my opinion!
The most impressive detail is the fact that this isn’t your typical faux fur coat. This one includes a secret cell phone pocket in the left side of the coat along with heaters that go up to 30-40C. You can also charge it in your car in between errands. Who would have thought! You can have a coat that’s chic and functional. What’s not to love! This coat feels light-weight and still keeps me warm on those cold nights. To get your own, check out the faux fur coat here.
What do you think of adding faux fur to your wardrobe? Do share. xoxo
Is there anything better than shopping for a new season? I think not…! Come spring or summer I get extremely excited to add more items to my wardrobe; specifically classic staples such as a chic coat or jacket. There’s something so sophisticated about owning one that demands the attention of a room and today’s piece is the epitome of that.
The trench I am wearing in today’s post stands out in colour and style and remains one of those versatile pieces I reach for daily because of how timeless it is. Other than the gorgeous colour contrast between the beige and brown, I love the asymmetrical hem and fit. So great paired with a dress and heels and can work so well with casual bottoms and sneakers. The possibilities are endless!
To let the trench take centre stage, I chose to keep the look within a neutral palette, which is sometimes the prettiest of palettes. It’s understated, yet universally appealing. Having worked with Steph Mouchie in the past, I was super excited to hear that they were introducing coats to their line. To shop the one I’m wearing click here.
