Designer to women of the future
One of Canada’s leading fashion designers, Stef Mouchie creative director Ethan Wingate is renowned for his elegant, timeless, tailored designs. Looking to sculpture to inform his beautiful aesthetic, Wingates collections are rich in art and literature and cultural references and have a heavy emphasis on the perfect fit.
An honor student at Ottawa University, the designer graduated with degrees in mechanical engineering, biomedical and technology before turning his hand to fashion design with a vision to reinvent the approach to modern style with the creation of bespoke ready to wear collections, tailored made to each of his clients.
“Fusing my expertise in computer technology with fashion design, I followed my dream of creating clothing that is at once beautiful and fashion forward but has a sharp focus on the art of tailoring and fit”, says Wingate who founded Stef Mouchie in 2017. To that end Wingate worked with the founder of Elevations in Style Chris Morgan to establish his design philosophy, mastering the mechanics of pattern making and fabric behavior from local tailors.
Stef Mouchie looks to fashion icons of the 1960’s, those great women of style who possessed enduring beauty and political and culture influence – Twiggy, Jacky Kennedy, Janis Lyn Joplin – to influence his collections and echo the feminine, empowering, timeless spirit of brand.
The latest collection entitled ‘Rise up’ for spring/summer 2020 is a celebration of female empowerment with a nod to strong 60’s silhouettes, timeless black, sharp tailoring, along with a hint of elegance and optimism for the future along thanks to earthy green pieces to symbolize our love affair with nature and hope for a more sustainable future.
